Red Tide is the name under which Jon Nuccle plays his solo live set. Jon has been a long-time stalwart of UK techno, with this being the latest incarnation in a long list of collaborations, releases and labels, check it:
Jon Nuccle has been producing top notch Techno for over ten years now, recording for several different labels, under a number of pseudonyms including Cold Dust, Player and Red Tide.
His first vinyl releases were on Frank de Wulf’s 2 Thumbs, Growth and Mineral labels and since then has gone on to record for Bush, Communiqué, Black & White and Corb, amongst others, including remixes for Thomas Krome, Felix da Housecat and Gaetano Parisio.
The majority of Jon’s work is released on his own labels, including Red Seal, one of the UK’s toughest Techno tags, Core, Jon’s outlet for his “inner circle” of artists, and his latest project, The Infamous Player.
Since it’s infancy back in 2000, Player has been notorious for supplying badass, deep down an dirty techno beats with a street level attitude. Hip Hop meets House meets Techno to bring us the UK’s most versatile dance label. Jon first came up with the concept for the label with The Orbit resident, Mark Turner. The idea, to take Techno to another level, using streetwise Hip Hop and RnB influences to infiltrate the boredom of purist Techno. A scene which had become stale and uninspiring.
The result is a sound every bit as pure as anyone’s, but with a unique twist.
Jon is also occasional resident of The Orbit, the club where Jon first cut his teeth playing live as Cold Dust, along with long time cohort, Mike Humphries and where their performances are now legendary.
Jon’s DJ style is hard but fair, using CD decks as well as 1210s in order to spin fresh cuts from the Player studio as soon as they are recorded, playing tunes unavailable to anyone else. He cuts and transforms with finesse, but also likes to keep the flow moving with some good old-fashioned beat matching.
He has played at leading Techno clubs all across the globe, including The Orbit (UK), La Real (Spain), Techstylism (Sweden) and The Omen (Germany).
Jon has spent much of 2003 concentrating on a new live set with Player, which they have recently been rocking the clubs of northern Europe with.
His Red Tide live set is also picking up a lot of interest, as Jon claims “It’s about as live as it gets”, he adds “everything goes into the set as raw loops and I arrange and mix it down live on stage…there and then.”
