DJ Sueme

Phil Wells spread Subhead mania further by moving to Tokyo in 1999, continuing his and Jason’s heavy output via state of the art technology and lots of jetlag. Wells jump-started his Dotcom label and suddenly transformed into DJ Sueme as new camouflage for Tokyo«s edgy Underground besides his further outings in journalism, motorcycle racing, acting, fashion modelling and touring with Jason throughout Japan.

Wells’s move further triggered more collaborations between he and Leach, and landed the ruckin’ “Arucknaphobia” EP with Tresor in mid-2000 and ‘Baby Takes Three’ (Tresor) 2002 Jason meanwhile was releasing ever weirder releases on his label FIX under guises of Carrion Crow, Royal Blood and Circa which also has releases on the Feis imprint. The FIX collective have a forthcoming album release on Tresors - Supremat in November. In 2000 Jason set up the swiss label Mercurochrome with Andre Ferlin.

While Subhead’s massive backcatalogue consists entirely of 12-inch/EP vinyl, “Neon Rocka” (Tresor), was their first-ever album release and strongest sampler yet featuring loaded doses of all their shades and styles. Underground and as tough and loud as Leach and Wells are known, Subhead’s art attack breaks the dancefloor standards with everything between sampladelic freestyle and raucous bottomline Techno. Unbelieveable while totally understandable, the myths about eccentricity are true: Subhead’s reign has just begun.
